SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. — The Clean Energy Association of New Mexico (CLEAN) concluded its first Nuclear in New Mexico conference running from April 20th to 22nd, 2026 at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa on Santa Ana Pueblo. The three-day event brought together uranium industry professionals, sovereign tribal nations, government officials, academic leaders, local businesses and New Mexico residents to discuss the past, present and future of nuclear energy in the state.
The full conference, including speaker interviews, was recorded and will be available on the CLEAN website shortly. Dates for the next Nuclear in New Mexico conference will be announced separately.
“New Mexico has the potential to be a national leader across the full nuclear cycle—it holds the largest, highest-grade uranium resources in the country, the country’s only enrichment facility, an abundance of talent at the national labs and universities and is now at the center of a national dialogue with a nuclear renaissance,” said Janet Lee-Sheriff, President of CLEAN. “The conference filled a critical gap, providing the information needed for informed decision-making and sparking important conversations within communities. It felt like all voices and perspectives were represented. We listened, and now the work continues. Modern nuclear projects utilize highly regulated environmentally responsible extraction with in-situ recovery, create high-wage jobs, bring investment to rural communities, and offer meaningful partnership with Tribal governments, who hold a decisive voice.”
Conference highlights included a panel on uranium legacy issues and a path forward; a session with Native Nuclear, an Indigenous-led organization focused on nuclear energy education and advocacy, on community engagement; a groundwater restoration research panel with Los Alamos National Laboratory; and a student panel featuring Grants Cibola County School students. The students spoke to responsible uranium development, nuclear energy careers, and the future of their communities.
