Why New Mexico?

New Mexico is thought to be 7th in worldwide uranium production1, and the Grants uranium district yielded more uranium than any other state previously for nearly three decades1. New Mexico has the largest identified uranium ore reserves in the United States, with approximately 409 million pounds of uranium resources remaining in the Grants district as identified by companies in the 1980’s2. The Clean Energy Association of New Mexico is advocating for the use of In-Situ Recovery uranium extraction to help fuel the U.S nuclear renaissance.

Although there are no active uranium operations in the Grants Uranium District currently, several companies have acquired properties and plan to explore and advance future development in the area. Domestic production in the U.S. has declined over the past decades, leaving the U.S. to import uranium from geopolitically unstable countries. All CLEAN members hold interests in uranium projects within the Grants Mineral Belt—initiatives that position New Mexico to become a leader in ISR extraction and strengthen the nation’s domestic uranium supply.
